CBD Afghani Haze

Afghan Haze is a sativa-dominant hybrid that combines a resinous Afghani indica with a sweet-smelling Haze sativa. Created by former Sensi breeder Nevil Schoenmaker and Shantibaba of Mr. Nice Seeds, Afghan Haze balances energizing cerebral invigoration with soothing full-body effects. Its clear-headed relief allows patients to treat pain, depression, and appetite loss during the day, and heavier doses can help ease the mind and body into peaceful sleep. Afghan Haze may have an excruciatingly long indoor flowering time of 10 weeks, but the large harvests of potent, crystal-covered buds are worth waiting for.

CBD Afghani  Haze is a medical cannabis strain created through the crossing of an ancient landrace strain, Afghani, and a high-CBD strain, Cannatonic. Afghani itself is named after its place of origin, in the mountains of Afghanistan where some of the earliest varieties of cannabis are believed to have grown— this strain is actually believed to be one of the oldest on the planet. The plant itself is an indica variety, growing short and robust with deep purple with leaves flecked with green.

Cannatonic, on the other hand, is a modern hybrid strain, created through the crossing of MK Ultra and G13 Haze. While most contemporary cannabis strains contain very little of the chemical compound known as cannabidiol (CBD), strains such as Cannatonic have been bred to contain higher amounts of CBD.

CBD is an example of a cannabinoid, one of many found in cannabis plants in varying amounts. Most cannabis grown for recreational purposes often contains more tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) than CBD. However, through selective breeding, cannabis cultivators have created new varieties with high levels of CBD and relatively low levels of THC. These strains are rare but have increased popularity in recent years.

CBD is non-psychoactive because it does not act on the same pathways as THC. These pathways, called CB1 receptors, are highly concentrated in the brain and are responsible for the mind-altering effects of THC. A 2011 review published in Current Drug Safety concludes that CBD “does not interfere with several psychomotor and psychological functions.” The authors add that several studies suggest that CBD is “well tolerated and safe” even at high doses. Although CBD and THC act on different pathways of the body, they seem to have many of the same potential medical benefits. According to a 2013 review published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, studies have found CBD to possess medical properties.

CBD seems to offer natural protection against the marijuana high. Numerous studies suggest that CBD acts to reduce the intoxicating effects of THC, such as memory impairment and paranoia.

CBD also appears to counteract the sleep-inducing effects of THC, which may explain why some strains of cannabis are known to increase alertness.

In addition to its profile of cannabinoids, Afghani CBD also contains many terpenes. Here are its most prevalent terpenes:
